Caring for Microfibre Leather

Why caring for your bag matters

Our bags are made to be used. They’re meant for real walks, real weather and real life, not to sit in a cupboard. Microfibre leather is naturally durable and very low maintenance, which is one of the reasons we selected it. Still… a little bit of care now and again helps it stay looking sharp. Nothing complicated. Just simple, everyday habits that keep the material at its best.

Day-to-day care

Most of the time, all your bag needs is a quick wipe. A soft cloth, a bit of warm water, and that’s usually enough to remove dust or light marks. If you want to use a tiny bit of mild soap, you can, but don’t overthink it. Harsh cleaners aren’t necessary, and anything abrasive will do more harm than good. The surface is even and smooth, so gentle really is the way to go.

If you get a mark or spill

Life happens. Drinks spill, hands aren’t always clean and sometimes bags end up on the floor. If something gets on your bag, wipe it off as soon as you can. Start with warm water and a gentle cloth. Most marks lift quickly. If you need a little extra help, a small amount of mild detergent usually does the trick. Just avoid bleach, alcohol based cleaners and anything made for real leather, as they can break down the finish.

Looking after the shape

Microfibre leather holds its structure nicely, but it still appreciates a bit of support. When you’re not using the bag, keep it upright or lightly filled so it doesn’t flatten. Try not to store it underneath a pile of things or in a drawer where it might get squashed. Little habits like this make a big difference over time. We include a dust bag too, so you can keep it clean even when not in use.

Weather and everyday use

One of the best things about microfibre leather is how well it copes with typical British weather. A bit of drizzle isn’t an issue. If it gets properly soaked, just pat it dry and let it air dry naturally. No radiators, no hairdryers. Heat can cause the material to warp or change texture.

A few things to avoid

There aren’t many rules, but here are the ones worth remembering:

• Skip the strong chemical cleaners
• Keep it away from rough surfaces that might scratch it
• Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight for long stretches
• Don’t store sharp items loose in the bag
• Use the dust bag when the bag isn’t in use

Simple things, but they’ll help the material stay smooth and look fresh.

“A little attention goes a long way. Microfibre leather doesn’t ask for much, just gentle care and everyday use.”

A low-maintenance material

This is honestly one of the reasons we chose microfibre leather. It doesn’t need conditioning or polishing or any of the upkeep traditional leather demands. It just needs a bit of gentle care and attention when life gets messy.

Made to last

Twine and Co pieces are designed to live with you — on walks, at the shops, on the school run and all the in-between moments that make up everyday life. With the right care, microfibre leather stays beautiful, reliable and completely fuss-free.

Because the things we use the most should age well, not wear out quickly.
